Bengaluru: The Deputy Chief Minister Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Narayana, who is also an MLA from Malleshwarm constituency, offered ‘bagina’ at Sankey tank on Thursday which is filled to the brim and overflowing after 12 long years.

He worshipped the water goddess ‘Gange’ exactly at 9.30 a.m. and wished the tank which is dearer to the people of Malleshwaram would retain its green and beauty forever.

The tank which is also well-known for its scenic beauty was also clad with a veil of fog on Thursday also. It made the DyCM remember of famous scenic spots like Mullaiyyanagiri of Chikkamagaluru, Nandi Hills, and also Ooty.

After offering ‘bagina’ to the tank, Ashwatha Narayana said, “the very fact that the tank is being filled to the brim has brought cheers to the people of Malleshwaram and surrounding localities. It is a pleasure to worship and offer ‘bagina’ to goddess Gange in this auspicious occasion”.

In the future, the water which falls on the city in the form of rain will not be allowed to go waste. Soak pits will be built across the city and the water filling capacity of the tanks will also be enhanced, he informed.

The DyCM had also taken steps to make the water fallen on the catchment area to reach the tank. He had initiated measures to de-silt the canals which lead to the tank. This action along with the copious rain helped the tank to accumulate water quickly and fill to the brim.

He also said that the problems due to rain in the city would be addressed efficiently.

After offering ‘bagina’ he also inspected the ongoing works at the Sankey tank. He also went for a long walk alongside the lake. Ranganatha, President, Sankey Walker’s Association, Mohan Krishna, Chief Engineer, BBMP, Chidananda, Joint Commissioner (west), BBMP, Sumangala, Ex-Corporator and others involved while offering ‘bagina’.
